The first ounce

Babies are supposed to lose a little weight in the few days after they are born, and then start gaining up to an ounce a day. David had us pretty worried when he kept losing weight for almost a week and would not eat. We finally found a wonderful feeding consultant on Wednesday who was able to help us turn that around, and he gained 20 grams on Thursday.

20 grams of anything has never seemed so important.

Now he has several times eaten the largest meal of his life (so far). 40 ml of high-calorie formula was an accomplishment on Wednesday. This morning he ate 78 ml in a single 30-minute feeding. Keep that up, child, and we can start measuring your formula in ounces and your parents’ relief in megajoules.
