1 out, bottom of the middle

David’s first tooth lasted from July 14, 2012 to March 18, 2017.

I was off at a bat mitzvah when his tooth came out. Today was Rites of Passage Day, apparently.

We had a good talk with David over lunch about the tooth fairy, and stories that people enjoy, and whether he would like to pretend that tooth fairies are real, and how we can best meet his stitched-together expectations. We’ll see how he feels we did tomorrow.

He was quite aware of the loose tooth over the past two weeks, but it didn’t hurt, and it only bled briefly when it came out. He does not look or sound startlingly different without the tooth. I suspect the upper front teeth have more effect on that.

When we role-played with him how he will respond to his classmates on Monday when they ask what the tooth fairy gave him, he said “The tooth fairy isn’t real!” Sorry, classmates.
