Percentiles

44.5 months old. 42.4 pounds, 95th percentile for weight at this age. 42.75 inches tall, 98th percentile for height at this age. David is at the average height of boys who are 15 months older than him. Kids who are this tall often face unreasonable expectations from strangers, because they look like they’re much older than they are. We’re his parents, though, and I like to think our expectations would therefore be unreasonable regardless of his height.

And that’s why it’s so gratifying to have him help clean up the books in the children’s area at the bookstore when the shop owner started tidying up. David remembered where the books he had found belonged, he looked for matches for other books, he fetched a stepstool when he couldn’t reach a higher shelf, and he was determined to help until every book was put away. The shop owner, who had no reason to realize that David was doing all this at only 3 years old, was delighted to have his help and was clearly impressed.

12 books put away, 100th percentile for putting books away at this age.
