A first Thanksgiving

We are thankful that David’s birthparents chose to bring David into this world. We are thankful they made the considered decision to place him with us for adoption. We are thankful for their trust, for everything they shared with us, and for our son.

We are thankful that we have had such tremendous support from family, from friends new and old, from babysitters and neighbors and doctors and a million people who have taken a moment from their day to interact with us and with this amazing new human being who is so hungry to learn about the world.

We are thankful for our colleagues who have enabled us to continue working, who have accommodated the increased demands to divide our time and attention, and who have kindly looked at far too many baby pictures.

We are thankful for the more than 200 times that David has slept through the night.

We are also thankful for every time that David woke up in the middle of the night when he needed food or comfort or a clean diaper. We are thankful for every nap, for every morning greeted with a smile, and even for every morning greeted with a cry.

We are thankful for every morning walk we have been able to take together.

We are thankful that David has been such a good traveler.

We are thankful for everyone who has eased the periodic stress and confusion of parenting, provided us with good advice and even better examples, and helped us appreciate the beautiful views along this journey.

We are thankful that we have been able to meet the challenges and adventures of parenting together, and that David has been such a good sport about it all.

We are thankful for everyone who has shared our joy, which now runs very deep. Thank you, each and every one.
