The room across from our bedroom is becoming the nursery, and the room across from my home office is becoming the new guest room. Since this has involved removing all of the furniture from both rooms, we are taking the opportunity to do some work: add ceiling fans, replace the windows, add more outlets, and cosmetic improvements. Also new furniture, of course. Both rooms will be ready in October, but September is going to be a chaotic month during which we only have a sofa and a futon to offer guests.
We’ve made good progress on house projects in the past month: our mason has done all the hard work on replacing the bulkhead, our electrician is making progress on the lights and outlets, and we’ve cleared out some basement clutter and added new shelving. Oh, and we replaced the refrigerator, cleaned the carpets, donated a lot of old books and records to the library, finished putting our CDs into iTunes, and made floor plans for the new guest room and a 3d model of our imagined attic build-out. Some of this is nesting, some of it is just a desire to complete long-contemplated projects before the baby arrives so our focus can then be where it belongs: on the baby.
