While on vacation, we tried to give David some lights for his new shoes that slip onto the shoelaces. We hadn’t realized that the shoelaces on those shoes were loops, and we told him that we’d have to wait until we got home to find a way to attach the lights to his shoes.
Not another word was heard about the lights until we walked into our house 6 days later, when David said, “Now we can put them on my shoes.” We told him we would work on it after he went to bed. As he was climbing the stairs to bed 5 hours later, he reminded us gently that we would go fix his shoes next.
Two reminders, both perfectly timed, with no complaining. He may not remember a lot about this age later, but he is certainly remembering a lot during this age.
And with some ribbon and a sail repair needle, Papa attached the new lights to his shoes. In the morning, David was delighted to find that we had followed through, examined his newly improved shoes, and pronounced them good.
