Please look after this bear. Thank you.

A very nice family with a girl just a few months younger than David was looking for another child to stay with their daughter and their nanny for a couple of days a week, which is exactly what we need for David. We visited their home 10 days ago, and the toddlers hit if off as toddlers do: lots of staring and mild suspicion. So we agreed to try it out starting with a few hours yesterday and a full day today.

We arrived after David’s nap yesterday, chatted with the other mom and the nanny, reviewed the Paddington Bear note we had written up with our details and David’s, and waited to see if David would be willing to let go of us. He took the nanny’s hand, and without hesitation or even a backward glance he walked into the back yard to play. And we drove home without him, having left our son with strangers for the afternoon. This may be harder on us than on him.

David had a good time yesterday. He had some sleep disturbances last night, but he slept late and was eager to walk up the stairs with us when we arrived at their home this morning. Once he checked that everything was still where he had left it, showed us a couple of toys, and found an apple to eat, he relaxed and let us leave. His usual mid-day nap was replaced by an hour of crying and a quieter hour with Mama visiting, but he settled down for a few more hours of playing in the afternoon. Tonight he showed us some new dance moves and then went to bed an hour early.

Next week we add the nap back in. We hope.
