Tot Shabbat, now featuring David!

On Saturday, at exactly 18 months old, David decided to become the highlight of Tot Shabbat.

We’ve been going almost every month since he was a few months old, though this was the first time that David’s Oma and Opa were there also. There’s some singing, and some body movement, and a little story-telling, and a parade around the sanctuary with every child carrying a plush Torah. When all the kids ran to get a plush Torah, David walked over and got one also, and he enthusiastically joined the parade of kids and parents and grandparents. Then it was time to put the plush Torahs back in the box so we could all sit and listen to a story, followed by some quiet craft time.

David saw his opportunity. While everyone else worked on arranging colored shreds of paper on a sticky backing, David walked across the room, retrieved one of the plush Torahs, and carried it back to us. And then another one. And another. Weaving his way around the children and adults, he was on a mission to bring us all of the plush Torahs. After his fifth trip, he decided he was comfortable carrying two at a time. After he decided that we had enough plush Torahs, he graced a couple of other people with plush Torahs.

I don’t know whether David was hoping we would all parade around again, or if he just thought that it had clearly been fun for everyone to be holding plush Torahs and he could do his part to help. Whatever the reason, that cute toddler cheerfully walking around doing his own thing? That was our child. Our baby Moses determined to bring the word of God to the people no matter how many trips up Sinai it might require.

And at the end of craft time, after we brought all the plush Torahs back to the box and put them away, David put the last one back in the box himself.
